The Haines railroad depot building was constructed in the 1880s by the Oregon Navigation & Railroad Company to provide a shipping point for local mining, timber, and agricultural products which were delivered to the Portland markets. The thriving little town of Haines grew around this railhead and soon became known as the "The Biggest Little City in Oregon."
When passenger service was discontinued in 1960, the Union Pacific Railroad donated the depot building to the Eastern Oregon Museum. The building was moved to the Museum grounds. A variety of early railroad artifacts and pictures are on display in the depot building.
